Re: Martin Bensky's June 26 letter, "President: Not Romney," by all means let's absolve President Obama of any blame for the exorbitant gas prices and the critical state of the U.S. economy, which is getting increasingly worse under his watch.
It isn't how much power the president of the United States has, but how he chooses to use it and how effective he is as an executive and as a manager. I've lived through 12 presidents, and Obama is far and away the most woefully inept and disengaged.
Obama's lack of leadership is particularly apparent in foreign affairs. He's lost the respect of virtually all the important world leaders. Nicolas Sarkozy of France nailed it. When talking about Obama in 2009, Sarkozy stated, "He's weak, inexperienced and badly briefed." Putin's look of complete disdain during Obama's address at the G-20 meeting in Mexico last month showed the depth to which U.S. influence in the world has been eroded.
Perhaps it's time for Bensky to be weaned off his Obama Kool Aid, and, as he so eloquently ends his letter, "live in the real world."
