This is in regard to the termination of the lease that Sun Downs Training Center had with Benton County on certain portions of the fairgrounds. The center sponsored the Friday Night Lights barrel racing events that were open to anyone with a horse or pony to try barrel racing.
This event is important to our community for several reasons. It provides a location for safe and drug free socializing for all ages, a touristic event that brings in people from outside the community who spend money at local businesses. It provides a sport that children and adults can participate in that gets the community active and off its butt.
This sport requires products that are purchased here, and it requires time invested other than just one night a week, which encourages responsibility.
Volunteers have donated materials and labor to renovate the premises. The 4H arena tower has now been fully insulated, sheet rocked, rewired and painted inside. The 4H arena has had both gates fixed and speaker wire replaced. More upgrades were planned. Sun Downs Center recently provided the main rodeo arena to the Junior Rodeo Nationals Event. It was a success.
There are more instances of the center benefiting the community. I am requesting that you intently look into the reasoning of the early termination of the lease.
