Great night for fans

Hockey fans have it made with Game 4 of the Western Hockey League finals at the Toyota Center tonight.

Go Ams.

But sports fans with a literary bent are also in luck tonight. Author Chris Crutcher is speaking at 7 p.m. at Columbia Basin College's Gjerde Center.

The free event is part of the Mid-Columbia Literary Festival. The emphasis on Northwest writers continues with Crutcher's appearance.

The Spokane resident and former Kamiakin High School teacher has a long list of influential -- and sometimes controversial -- novels for young adults to his credit, most with sports themes.

The New York Times Book Review calls Crutcher "a terrific storyteller with a wonderful handle on what it's like to be an adolescent."
