Uneeda Burger to offer free burgers on National Hamburger Day

If you need a good burger, a restaurant in Fremont will be giving them out for free on National Hamburger Day.

Uneeda Burger will offer one classic burger per patron on Thursday, May 28. The burgers, which are normally priced at $8, will be available from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. or "until supplies run out," according to anewsrelease.

Guests must be physically present at the time of purchase to receive a free classic burger, and this promotion does not apply to online takeout or delivery orders. Expect to still pay for any substitutions and add-ons, such as cheese, a gluten-free bun or extra patty.

The 16-year-old burger joint last organized a National Hamburger Day special in 2021, both to celebrate the day and thank Seattleites for their support during the COVID-19 pandemic, said owner Scott Staples in an interview, adding that Uneeda distributed 320 classic burgers for free.

"Last time, we didn't run out of supplies," Staples said. "We don't anticipate them to run out (this year), but you never know how many people show up."

Staples recommends patrons come earlier in the day Thursday, just in case.

This year, Uneeda's giveaway - which joins popular chains taking part in the festivities, such as Shake Shack and Dairy Queen (local burger chain Lil Woody's is also offering free burgers but on Memorial Day) - returns amid rising food prices in the Seattle area, Staples said.

"Given everything that's going on in the market today for restaurants and the challenge of running a business today in Seattle, I still remain thankful that we have strong supporters," Staples said.

Uneeda's classic burger combines all-natural and antibiotic-free Northwest beef, tomatoes, house pickles, a signature sauce (mayo, lemon, lemon zest, Dijon mustard and horseradish) and a locally baked sesameseedbun. The restaurant - which was named in The Seattle Times' 2018 list for the top burger spots in the city - is also serving seasonal favorites, including asparagus tempura and hand-spun shakes in coconut mango and huckleberry flavors.

"If we get people in that have never been here before, I'm hoping that they can see that you can get a quality experience at a reasonable price, especially when so many other places have become so expensive," Staples said.
