Driver killed after striking tree in central Vancouver
A man died early Monday morning after his vehicle veered off the road and struck a tree in central Vancouver, according to the Vancouver Police Department.
In a social media post Monday, the department said officers responded just before 2 a.m. to reports of a single-vehicle crash near the intersection of East Mill Plain Boulevard and East Reserve Street.
Investigators determined the vehicle veered off the roadway and struck a tree in the center median. The driver was not wearing a seat belt, according to police.
Emergency first responders took the driver to a local area hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police said they suspect impairment was a factor in the crash.
Police have not yet named the victim, pending notification of next of kin.
The Vancouver Police Department's Traffic Unit is investigating.
