Section of Cascade River opens for spring Chinook

A portion of the Cascade River opened Friday to fishing for hatchery spring Chinook salmon from the mouth of the river to the Rockport-Cascade Road bridge.

According to the state Department of Fish and Wildlife, the fishery will be open through Tuesday, and Wednesdays through Saturdays June 3 to July 15.

The daily limit is four hatchery Chinook, including no more than two adults with a minimum size of 12 inches. All other salmon species must be released.

Night closures and anti-snagging rules are in effect.

This fishery targets spring Chinook heading to Fish and Wildlife's Marblemount Hatchery on the Cascade River, where harvestable numbers of hatchery spring Chinook are forecast to return.

The five-day opening provides a fishing opportunity over Memorial Day weekend. Anglers are asked to cooperate with creel personnel collecting catch information.

Game fish seasons are closed during the months of May and June, meaning Dolly Varden/bull trout must be released.

A Dolly Varden/bull trout release will also be required during open salmon seasons when game fish seasons open July 1 and will be reflected in the upcoming 2026-2027 Washington Sportfishing Rules.

The area from the upstream side of the Rockport-Cascade bridge to 300 feet upstream is closed during all recreational fisheries (including game fish) due to enforcement issues.
