River View High School graduation: Classmates get funky
Members of River View High School’s Class of 2015 didn’t just get nostalgic during Friday night’s graduation ceremony.
They also got funky.
The graduates, led by Collin Owens, wearing a pair of shades, interrupted teacher Tyler Hogg’s speech to groove en masse to the hit song Uptown Funk.
Hogg wasn’t upset. He was in on it and danced, too.
It was one of many joyful moments during the ceremony in the Finley high school’s gym, which started with pomp and circumstance and ended with mortar boards and silly string flying through the air.
Co-valedictorians and twins Gary and Sean McGaughey spoke of their love for their family and the lessons they learned as Panthers.
Ruvim Tyutyunnik, picked by his classmates to give a speech, had the crowd laughing with funny memories and one-liners.
Salutatorian Richard Parra encouraged his classmates to follow the opportunities presented to them, and also their hearts. “Congratulations again, Class of 2015 ... I know you guys will change the world,” he said.
