Three high school seniors in the Richland School District will receive National Merit scholarships financed by Battelle.
Annie Ying Lai of Richland High School and Elisa Apra and Joel A. Staudinger of Hanford High School were among 26 in the state to receive a corporate-sponsored scholarship from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
Battelle operates Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in north Richland. Corporate-sponsored awards typically go to qualifying children of employees, those who live in the communities where the corporations are or plan to pursue careers related to their business.
The value of each scholarship was not announced but they can range between $500 and $10,000 with the possibility of renewable for four years. Some scholarship awards are for single stipends of between $2,500 and $5,000.
More scholarships funded by the National Merit organization and specific colleges will be announced in the coming weeks.
