Hermiston high school students constructing over 2,000-square-foot home

HERMISTON -- High school students have started construction of a home, the first such student-built project of the Columbia Basin Student Homebuilding Program.

Students will eventually build 11 homes in a small development near Hermiston High School as part of the program, a release said. The home will be more than 2,000 square feet in a craftsman style.

The students are working with professionals from the Northeast Oregon Home Builders Association. More students from Hermiston, Stanfield and Umatilla will work on the project in the fall.
