A 29-year-old Moses Lake man died early Sunday when his car crossed into oncoming traffic on Highway 17 and slammed into an SUV.
Gaudencio Vilchis Ordonez was pronounced dead at the scene after the 12:36 a.m. crash, which was seven miles south of Moses Lake.
A Washington State Patrol report said drugs or alcohol are suspected of being involved.
Vilchis Ordonez was northbound on the highway in his 2002 Volkswagen Jetta when he drove into the path of a southbound 2004 Ford Excursion.
The car and the SUV hit head on, causing the Volkswagen to drive off the roadway to the east into a field and the Ford to roll onto its passenger side. The Ford came to a stop on the west side of the Highway 17 and Road 5 SE intersection, the state patrol said.
Mistinique J. Fuller, 31, of Othello, was the driver of the Ford. She had four passengers, all from Othello: Sarah R. Mendoza, 30; Erica L. Wheeler, 25; Juaquin Mendoza, 38; and Lori J. Wheeler, 50.
Fuller and her passengers all were wearing seat belts, and all were taken to Samaritan Healthcare in Moses Lake as a precautionary measure, the state patrol reported.
Vilchis Ordonez also had on his seat belt at the time of the crash. His family was notified of his death by the Grant County Coroner’s Office.
