A nearly completed house under construction burned in Badger Canyon late Saturday morning.
Benton Fire District 1 arrived to find heavy smoke and flames about 11:15 a.m. at the house on a private road in the area near Kennewick. About half the house was destroyed, said fire district Capt. Devin Helland.
The cause is under investigation, but the fire may have spread from a truck parked at its side. No one was there at the time, Helland said.
Firefighters quickly stopped the progression of the fire, but then had a difficult time getting the fire out in all the places it had spread.

The district was helped by firefighters from Kennewick, Richland, Pasco and Benton Fire Districts 2, 3 and 4. Many firefighters were needed because of the fatigue caused by the heat of the fire on a hot day, Helland said.
