A 12-year-old boy is dead and several others were hurt when a van collided early Tuesday with a car on Road 170 near Ringold in Franklin County. The driver of the van has been arrested.
The Ford van was carrying five to six people when it tried to pass a Saturn that was turning at Hipoint Road. The van rolled. The boy who died was thrown from the van, said Franklin County sheriff’s investigators.
The driver of the van, Celerino M. Leon, 48, of Othello, was arrested and booked for vehicular homicide, vehicular assault and driving under the influence, according to a Sheriff’s office news release.
The boy’s name is not being released because family has yet to be notified, officials said.
The others who were injured were taken to area hospitals by ambulance and helicopter.
The Washington State Patrol is helping with the investigation.
