Columbia Dive Rescue pulled an 18-year-old Irrigon teen from the Columbia River Sunday, but he did not survive.
Dylan Jones had been swimming when others at the river noticed he had not resurfaced in the water. A Morrow County marine deputy was loading the patrol boat at the Irrigon Marina at 3:28 p.m. when he was told the teen could not be found.
The marine deputy checked the swim area but could not find Jones, according to information from the Morrow County Sheriff’s office.
The patrol boat was launched, and with the help of a fisherman, checked the area several times before Columbia Dive Rescue arrived at 4:16 p.m.
Columbia Dive Rescue found Jones quickly and cardiopulmonary resuscitation was started. However, Jones was pronounced dead after he was taken to Good Shepherd Hospital in Hermiston, police reports said.
Although the weather is warm, the river water remains in the low 60s at the surface, said the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office.
