Jury selection began Wednesday for the trial of a teen accused of killing a Pasco man at a Connell apartment.
Fernando Gonzalez, 19, is charged in Franklin County Superior Court with second-degree murder with a firearm enhancement and possession of a stolen gun.
Gonzalez is expected to claim self-defense in the Aug. 11 shooting of John Bounhomsavanh.
Gonzalez claims he was interrupting a burglary when he killed the 32-year-old. He said he happened to be near the front door when Bounhomsavanh and his two friends knocked, the door flew open, the three men rushed in and he fired, according to court documents.
Gonzalez lives elsewhere in Connell but was staying at the apartment. A .45-caliber pistol was found inside.
Franklin County clerks summoned 120 potential jurors, with 88 people showing up in court.
Jury selection is expected to last at least two days.
