A Kennewick woman was hurt Saturday while riding in a pickup truck at Franklin County’s Juniper Dunes area, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
The woman, in her early 40s, was flown to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center with unknown injuries.
She and her husband were among a large group helping to collect garbage in the recreational area. Several off-road clubs were holding a cleanup day. They went for a spin in the truck near what is known as Pipeline Road after finishing cleaning up.
The truck became airborne, and the woman, who was not wearing a seat belt, hit her head on the truck roof about 4:45 p.m. Saturday, said Deputy Ruben Bayona. Her husband was not hurt.
Bayona said motorcyclists must wear helmets and vehicle drivers and passengers must wear seat belts.
