Smoke and flames may be seen throughout the day in the Mabton area Wednesday as a 200-acre wildfire finishes burning itself out, officials say.
The fire started about 6 p.m. Tuesday in the 19000 block of Highway 22 after a controlled burn spread, jumping across the Yakima River and onto land managed by the state Department of Fish and Wildlife, according to Yakima Fire District 5.
About 50 firefighters were able to bring the fire under control by midnight. The Prosser Fire Department, Yakima County Sheriff's Office and multiple upper Valley fire departments assisted.
A few homes were briefly threatened by the fire, officials say. No injuries were reported.

Fish and Wildlife representatives will monitor the area Wednesday.
Firefighters say trees and other unburned fuel are expected to burn off throughout the day. Those areas are well within the containment lines, they say.
