MATTAWA -- Grant County sheriff's detectives still are looking for help identifying the man who killed a pregnant Mattawa woman and her unborn son last month.
Esperanza Vicente-Mestizo, 28, was shot Feb. 11, while she was unloading groceries from her mini van at her apartment in the 500 block of Third Place.
Vicente-Mestizo was 71/2 months pregnant and the mother of three children under 12, authorities said.
Her boyfriend was inside the home with the children.
Investigators said a man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt walked up to the victim and shot her several times with a handgun before running away.
There is no obvious connection to gangs or drug-activity, and detectives don't know why Vicente-Mestizo was targeted. No suspects have been identified.
The sheriff's office released a flier Friday with Vicente-Mestizo's picture and information about the homicide, hoping the public can help solve the case.
The flier can be seen online at www.co.grant.wa.us/sheriff, then click on the link for "Wanted and Missing Persons Posters."
Anyone with information about the homicide can call detectives at 509-754-2011, ext. 468 or email crimetips@ co.grant.wa.us. Tipsters may remain anonymous.
