3 in custody after fight at Kennewick apartment

A Kennewick police officer's patrol car nearly was hit by suspects speeding away from a fight at an apartment complex Thursday, authorities said.

Officers were called to the Heatherstone Apartments, 1138 W. 10th Ave., at 3:35 p.m. after getting a report that about 15 people were fighting there, said Sgt. Ken Lattin.

The first officer who arrived said he saw a white Toyota Camry speeding away that almost crashed into his cruiser.

The officer chased after the car as it drove through the complex, then several people jumped out of the car when it stopped, Lattin said.

The driver and two passengers were caught a short time later and taken into custody.

The victims of the fight have not yet been identified, Lattin said. No injuries were reported.

Benton County sheriff's deputies and Washington State Patrol troopers also responded to the fight.
