Police say man caught trying to steal Richland cop car

RICHLAND -- A Kennewick man was quickly surrounded when he was caught trying to steal a Richland police car from inside their secured parking lot.

Jeshua D. Dusek, 19, later told officers his theft attempt was to "bolster his reputation amongst gang members in Pasco," said Richland police Sgt. Darryl Judge.

Dusek was arrested about 9:40 a.m. Sunday after a Richland officer returning to the station spotted him in the closed parking lot, Judge said.

Dusek reportedly argued with the officer when he tried to confront him, then tried to hide among the other parked vehicles.

Moments later, several officers responding from inside the station surrounded Dusek and tried to arrest him.

Dusek fought with the officers, but was eventually taken into custody.

He was treated at the hospital, then booked into the Benton County jail on suspicion of second-degree burglary, attempted auto theft, first-degree malicious mischief, resisting arrest, obstructing law enforcement officers and four counts of vehicle prowl.
