West Richland patrol car hit in wreck has $5,000 in damage

A West Richland patrol car has an estimated $5,000 worth of damage after a suspected drunken driver crashed into it this weekend.

The cruiser's front bumper was demolished and some of the lights were broken when Shannon Sweet ran a stop sign on South 37th Avenue at Everett Street and "plowed into" Officer Scott Oak's car, Police Chief Layne Erdman said.

Oak is recovering from some minor whiplash-type injuries from Saturday night's wreck, Erdman said.

Sweet, 34, of West Richland, reportedly was tested and found to have more than twice the 0.08 legal blood-alcohol limit, with the breath test showing 0.168.
