1 person hurt after fire erupts in Pasco garage. Explosions reported before blaze

One person was hurt in a Tuesday night fire on a busy Pasco street.

Neighbors reported that the homeowner had arrived home at the 6300 block of Candlestick Drive about 7:15 p.m. and heard an explosion and saw flames in the garage, said Ben Shearer, Pasco Fire Department’s public information officer.

The neighborhood sits north of the HAPO Center in Pasco and near Road 68.

When police arrived, they found the homeowner was still inside and helped get him outside, according to dispatch reports.

He was taken to a hospital but his condition was not immediately available Wednesday.

A dog also was at the home when the fire started and was found safe in the backyard and taken inside by a neighbor.

The fire burned the garage and into the attic, damaging about a third of the house, Shearer said in a news release. While firefighters were able to keep the blaze from spreading into the rest of the house, there was extensive water and smoke damage. It destroyed or damaged three cars near the garage.

Pasco firefighters had help from Franklin County Fire District 3 in extinguishing the blaze. Shearer said in a news release that it took about 45 minutes to put it out.

Firefighters are still investigating what the cause. It’s believed the fire started in the garage.

Investigators don’t believe it’s suspicious.

Along with fighting the fire and dealing with the frigid temperatures, firefighters also were hampered by several people trying to drive through the busy neighborhood to see what was going on, Shearer said.
