Tri-Cities man hit and killed walking on highway. The driver did not stop
A Kennewick man was hit and killed early Sunday morning in Richland by a car that did not stop, said the Washington State Patrol.
The car was traveling toward Kennewick on the Highway 240 causeway across the Yakima River delta at 2:20 a.m. when it hit the pedestrian walking in the same direction.
According to the Richland Police Department, he was walking in the lanes of traffic on the highway about half way between Interstate 182 and Columbia Park.
Another driver stopped when they saw the man lying on the highway.
The man, who was 41, died before an ambulance could take him to a hospital. His name has not been released because family had not been notified yet.
Eastbound lanes of Highway 240 were closed until about 7 a.m., according to the Washington state Department of Transportation.
The incident remains under investigation by the WSP.
