A former Pasco police officer will be retried on charges he raped a woman in 2014 after a Franklin County jury was unable to reach a verdict in July.
Richard J. Aguirre, 52, will be retried on rape charges three months after his scheduled trial in Spokane County on separate charges for allegedly murdering a woman there decades ago.
On Tuesday, Judge Carrie L. Runge set a trial date of March 15 for the rape case in Franklin County Superior Court.
Aguirre waived his right to a speedy trial after a representative for his attorney said the firm has a busy fall preparing for some high-profile cases, including Aguirre’s trial on charges he murdered Ruby J. Doss in Spokane County in 1986.
Aguirre’s attorney indicated they will renew their request to move the rape retrial to another county because the media coverage tainted potential jurors.
