NACHES, Wash. -- A military helicopter has rescued two men who became trapped by an unexpected snowstorm southeast of Bumping Lake.
The men had been stranded since Sunday, when they hiked to Bauer Lake to go fishing, said Chief Deputy John Durand of the Yakima County Sheriff's Office. The weather turned, however, and snowed them in.
The sheriff's office started the search for the pair this morning. One of the men was able to hike to a high point to get a cellphone signal and provided information about their location, Durand said.
A medevac helicopter from the Yakima Training Center reached the men and was taking them to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital, Durand said about 3 p.m.
The men were not prepared for an extended stay in the wilderness, Durand said.
