Tri-City area volunteers to participate in Day of Service on Sept. 12

Volunteers in the Tri-City area will participate in Day of Service projects on Sept. 12.

The event is organized by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with help from city officials, local businesses, churches and service groups.

The public is invited to join in. Projects will run from 8 a.m. to noon.

They include:

▪  Cleaning up along the Heritage Trail behind the Little League fields off South 18th Avenue and West A Street and at Chiawana Park off Court Street and Road 84 in Pasco.

▪  Cleaning up the Spirit of America Trail in Zintel Canyon off West Seventh Avenue and South Vancouver Street in Kennewick and helping with cleanup and painting at parks and playgrounds across in the city. Volunteers also will clean up the Columbia Park shoreline and restore a paddle wheel near a boat launch, help at the Kennewick Senior Center and with graffiti abatement.

▪  A food drive is planned in Richland, and projects in Benton City, Prosser and Grandview also are planned.
