Former Franklin County Sheriff Richard Lathim is holding onto second place in the 9th District state representative primary, although his lead over Kenneth Caylor narrowed Friday to just 60 votes.
Lathim is a Republican and Caylor is a Democrat.
Both men trail Rep. Mary Dye, R-Pomeroy, who was appointed to the post in May.
The top two vote-getters in the Aug. 4 primary move on to the November general election, even if both are Republicans.
A handful of ballots are left to be counted in primary the race. The results won’t be official until they’re certified on Aug. 18.
The 9th District extends from Othello to the southeastern corner of Washington, and includes west Pasco and rural Franklin County.
