Tri-Citians can keep up with two area scouts at the World Scouting Jamboree in Yamaguchi, Japan, this week.
Boy Scout Julian Schreiber, 14, of Pasco, and Eagle Scout Joseph Ahrend, 16, of Kennewick, are attending the event with 35,000 scouts from 150 countries. Julian is an incoming eighth-grader at McLoughlin Middle School, while Joseph is a home-schooled junior.
Schreiber’s mother, Tanya Wojtowych, is posting updates from Scoutmaster David Carlson to a Northwest Troop World Jamboree Facebook page at http://bit.ly/japanscouts. She said she receives the updates nearly daily.
One recent post details the area scouts making s’mores for hundreds of people who had never heard of the treat. Wojtowych said they also plan to take part in a ceremony marking the 70th anniversary of the atomic bomb being dropped on Hiroshima.
