A 36-year-old Pasco man drowned Friday night while swimming with his family in the Columbia River north of Pasco.
Antonio Bravo Vega was pronounced dead from accidental drowning at 9:57 p.m., about 30 minutes after Columbia Basin Dive Rescue found him mostly submerged in the water.
Paramedics tried to revive him but it was too late.
Bravo Vega and his family were in a lagoon where a farming canal drains into the river, off North Road 68 near Rivershore Drive in Franklin County.

Bravo Vega was looking for his 13-year-old in the water when the father suddenly went missing sometime between 7:30 and 9:30 p.m., according to Candice Hermanson, Franklin County’s chief deputy coroner.
In the meantime, the teen returned to the riverbank after swimming out to an island.
Bravo Vega was not wearing a life jacket, and the river current reportedly was strong outside of the swimming cove. Family called 911 and Dive Rescue responded, along with sheriff’s deputies.
The teen was taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland to be checked out.
