Gasoline prices in Washington state are scheduled to increase by 7 cents per gallon Aug. 1, the first phase of a state gas tax increase.
The increase will bring Washington’s gas tax to 44.5 cents per gallon, among the highest in the nation.
The tax will increase by another 4.9 cents in 2016.
The increase is intended to pay for a $16 billion statewide transportation package, including a Duportail Street bridge over the Yakima River in Richland, Lewis Street overpass near downtown Pasco, Ridgeline Drive overpass on Highway 395 in Kennewick and a Red Mountain interchange off Interstate 82 near West Richland.
