A celebration for the reopening of Lyons Ferry State Park in Franklin County near Starbuck is planned June 5.
The event is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
State Senate Majority Leader Mark Schoesler, R-Ritzville, and other officials will speak at 11 a.m. Schoesler got $600,000 for park improvements and to establish a new lease agreement with the Army Corps to allow the state to once again to manage the park for day use.
The state canceled its lease at the park in 2002 because of a tight budget.
A tour of the improvements including a new restroom with showers near the boat launch is planned at 11:45 a.m. Historical society volunteers will give presentations, including re-enactments.
At 2 p.m. the 155th anniversary of the first crossing of Lyons Ferry is planned with stories about the ferry operator, the ferry crossing and the historic Mullen Road. The ferry was used to cross the Snake River.
Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the park. It is expected to be open 6:30 a.m. to dusk through Labor Day with the boat launch possibly being open later into the fall.
A Discover Pass is required for vehicle access to state parks for day use.
