The candidates for Benton County assessor will square off in a debate at 7 p.m. Oct. 8.
The Benton-Franklin Mainstream Republicans are sponsoring the event, featuring Mary Phillips and Bill Spencer at the Lampson Building, 607 E. Columbia Drive, Kennewick. The public is invited to ask questions.
Spencer, a certified real estate appraiser who owns Spencer Appraisal Service, and Phillips, the county's geographic information systems manager, are the top two vote-getters in the August primary. They are seeking to replace retiring Assessor Barbara Wagner.
