If you enjoy sharing your opinion on various topics without being the obnoxious type, then you might want to attend the TriConf event, which starts Wednesday at the Richland Public Library.
The free event for all ages skips Thursday then continues Friday and Saturday with a music festival at the library at 955 Northgate Drive.
TriConf is designed to be an experience in sharing opinions without threats of harassment or bigotry, said Jenn Turner, one of the organizers.
“TriConf is a barcamp conference, which means a group of people interested in the same topics — technology, design, art, culture, entrepreneurship or community — get together and propose different talks on those topics,” Turner said.
The nomination night to choose those speakers is from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the library.
“Anyone can volunteer to give a talk,” Turner said. “And the talks take many different forms. They can be lecture style, presentations with slides, interactive hands-on tutorials or how-to sessions, as well as open group discussions.”
Each talk should last about 20 to 30 minutes.
“TriConf is for everyone, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race or religion,” Turner said.
Discussions should be appropriate for all ages including people of many different backgrounds. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for any presentation, she added.
The mission of the conference is to encourage kindness and to share different points of view in a respectful atmosphere.
Attendees who violate the rules will be asked to leave. More information is at triconf.com.
Part of the conference will be a music festival on Friday and Saturday, sponsored by Tri-City music venue Mux in Richland.
Friday music, starting at 7 p.m., includes Marshal McLean Band, Matt Bacnic Band, Badland Nomad, Tumble Down Badger and Sea Giant.
Saturday bands scheduled to perform are The Dead Serious Lovers, The Echolarks, Spirit Animals, Hey Kudos and Ben Michel.
Two-day wrist bands are $35 in advance or $40 at the door. Tickets are available online at ti.to/mux/trifest.
