The West Richland City Council will discuss reorganizing and restructuring its economic development and park boards Tuesday.
There are a number of vacancies on the all-volunteer boards -- five on the economic development board and two on the park board -- and the council is going to consider combining the two groups, said Mayor Brett Gerry.
"The idea is to streamline things, to become more efficient and better utilize staff time," Gerry said.
Staff in the city's community development department are required to advertise, plan for, execute and follow up on meetings which involves considerable time, often after office hours.
"If they're working in the evenings, they're not in the office during the day when the public needs to interact with the city staff," Gerry said.
In a recommendation to the council, city staff asks that the meetings of the park and economic development boards be suspended until September. If necessary, special meetings could be called on an as-needed basis.
The council meets at 7 p.m. in the council meeting room at 3801 W. Van Giesen St.
