Sirens will sound between 10 a.m. and noon Wednesday as part of the test of the emergency alert system for Energy Northwest's nuclear power plant near Richland.
The sirens are along the Columbia and Yakima rivers. They will be heard between the Vernita Bridge on the Hanford Reach National Monument and Leslie Groves Park in north Richland and at the Horn Rapids Off-Road Vehicle Park, the firing range on Horn Road, the Columbia Generating Station nuclear plant and nearby areas.
The sirens will be tested multiple times, and the tests will be preceded and followed by voice announcements that a test is being conduction. Energy Northwest, Benton and Franklin counties emergency officials and the Department of Energy will be conducting the tests.
