Construction to begin on convention center hotel in Kennewick

A groundbreaking ceremony was held Thursday for the Springhill Suites Marriott to be built next to the Three Rivers Convention Center in Kennewick.

Construction is to begin soon on the 74,000-square-foot hotel.

The five-story, $7 million hotel will be attached to the convention center.

The city recently issued a building permit for SpringHill Suites by Marriott to Vijay Patel, president of A-1 Hospitality of Kennewick. The connection is key to attracting and retaining business for the convention center, officials said.

The owner is Vijay Patel, president of A-1 Hospitality of Kennewick. He owns the Holiday Inn Express next to TRAC in Pasco and the Fairfield Inn by Marriott in Kennewick.
