The trial for a Richland man charged with killing his ex-girlfriend has been postponed two months.
Lawrence A. Miller waived his right to a speedy trial, so the court scheduled it for Jan. 6.
However, that date isn't expected to stick because defense attorneys still are working to get medical records and other documents together before having Miller evaluated for sanity and diminished capacity.
Miller, 34, is charged with second-degree murder with domestic violence. The charge includes four aggravating circumstances for the Sept. 11 death of Rebeca Vandeventer.
The 32-year-old mother of three was stabbed 30 times while her children were in the home. The kids later went to a neighbor's home and said their mother was dead.
Miller turned himself in to Richland police shortly after the stabbing. He allegedly claimed that even though they'd recently broken up, he was upset that Vandeventer was seeing another man.
Miller's bail is set at $250,000.
