It could be more than six weeks before the Franklin County Coroner's Office determines how a 35-year-old Yakima man died early Sunday while being arrested by Pasco police.
The results of an autopsy performed Sunday on Ismael Maria-Acevedo were inconclusive, said Franklin County Coroner Dan Blasdel. The coroner's office will wait on the toxicology reports to be finished before it releases a cause of death.
There were no injuries on Maria-Acevedo's body that could have contributed to his death, Blasdel said.
An independent investigation into Maria-Acevedo's death is being conducted by the Tri-City Special Investigations Unit. The team, comprised of different police agencies in the Tri-Cities, is investigating the death because Maria-Acevedo died in police custody.
The investigation could be completed by the end of the week, said Pasco police Capt. Jim Raymond.
