Port of Kennewick commission candidates will have a chance to explain why they are the best option for the port's future at a primary candidate forum at 8 a.m. July 12 at Clover Island Inn.
The event is being sponsored by the Historic Downtown Kennewick Partnership.
Incumbent Gene Wagner is running for re-election in District 2, opposed by former Benton County Commissioner Leo Bowman and former Kennewick Mayor Tom Moak.
In the District 1 race, Don Barnes, a commercial real estate broker with Coldwell Banker Tomlinson Associated Brokers of Kennewick appointed to the port commission in May 2012, will face Danette Layne, a human resources generalist for Richland's Vista Engineering Technology, Barry Bush, a Benton Public Utility District commissioner and the port's former executive director, John Givens. He currently serves on the Kennewick Public Facilities District board. All four candidates will be competing for the remaining two years of the six-year term.
The forum is open to the public.
The Port of Kennewick boundaries includes Kennewick, Finley, West Richland and part of Richland.
