A Kennewick man who was shot through the chest by a police officer last month is in satisfactory condition at Harborview Medical Center.
Dennis Jaymes Skellenger, 26, has been at the Seattle hospital since June 15 when a bullet fired by Kennewick police Officer Jeremy Taylor grazed his left wrist, struck him in the chest and went out his back.
The Tri-Cities Regional Special Investigative Unit is investigating and police will release more information when its work is complete, said Kennewick police Sgt. Ken Lattin.
Taylor, who has been with department for six years, is on paid administrative leave as the investigation is conducted.

Skellenger led police on a foot chase through a neighborhood near Horse Heaven Hills Park in Kennewick after allegedly trying to return merchandise he bought with a stolen credit card to an auto parts store. When police surrounded him in a field near the park, Skellenger pulled a revolver and was shot, said Chief Ken Hohenberg following the shooting. He will face criminal charges when he is released from the hospital, Hohenberg said.
