Hotter than usual July predicted for Tri-Cities

Be prepared for a hotter than usual July in the Tri-Cities, says the National Weather Service.

After the month started with a heat wave, it’s predicting temperatures to average above normal for the month and precipitation to be below normal.

Normal highs for Kennewick during July are 90.3 degrees and normal lows are 61.7 degrees. Normal precipitation is 0.22 inch.

June also was slightly warmer than usual, in a month that saw an unusually cool period for nine days late in the month but hot spells near the first and at the end of the month.

A daily temperature record was set June 18 at Hanford when the high of 62 degrees was the coolest on record for the date. The old record was 69 degrees set in 1964.

The Hanford Meteorological Station keeps records back to 1945.
