National effort planned to curb impaired boating

Law enforcement will be on patrol on the Columbia and Snake rivers as part of a national initiative to stop impaired boating.

The Franklin, Benton and Walla Walla sheriff's offices and state agencies will have boats on the water from Friday through Sunday as part of Operation Drywater, a campaign of the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators.

Law enforcement officials said they will have staggered patrols throughout those waterways and others to enforce boating laws and cite people for boating under the influence.
