A 56-year-old Richland man drove the wrong way on Highway 240 for about a mile Saturday before crashing head-on into another car, the Washington State Patrol said.
Troopers investigating the 5:10 p.m. wreck in the westbound lane of the highway near the Columbia Park Trail exit have determined that Charles McClammer likely began going the wrong way at George Washington Way, said Trooper Chris Thorson.
McClammer, who remains in critical condition at Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, was going eastbound in the westbound lanes.
His 1996 Cadillac Deville hit a 1995 Toyota Camry that was going west on the highway, troopers said.
Trevor Patton, 45, and Brandon Patton, 13, both of Richland, remain in satisfactory condition at Kadlec.
