Vets touring with flag to stop in Kennewick

An American flag traveling across the United States and escorted by motorcycle enthusiasts between each stop is scheduled to arrive Aug. 6 in Kennewick.

The nonprofit Nation of Patriots has organized the tour the past three years to collect donations for families of wounded veterans.

It's the third year the Patriot Tour will visit the Tri-Cities, but Finley resident Bobby Dale, regional commander for the Nation of Patriots group coordinating the event, said he hopes a large crowd comes out in support.

The flag began traveling across the country this spring. The flag will come from Gladstone, Ore., when it arrives 3 p.m. at Rattlesnake Mountain Harley-Davidson. It will depart at 10 a.m. Aug. 7 for Spokane.

Dale said the 2011 stop in the Tri-Cities collected only $170 and had just 22 bikers take the flag to the next stop.

Organizers also are seeking riders to escort the flag. Registration for those riders begins at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 7. For more information, go to nationofpatriots.org.
