Richland apartment expansion begins

Construction began this week on a $11.4 million expansion at the Regency Park Apartments in Richland.

Four new buildings are being added to the complex at 3003 Queensgate Drive.

When finished in the spring, the eight-building complex will have about 200 units.

The first four buildings opened in March and already are 97 percent occupied, Angela Larson, assistant manager of the apartments, said Thursday.

Current buildings have studio, one- and two-bedroom units ranging in price from $675 to $1,025 a month, she said.

The new buildings will have two- and three-bedroom units. The rent will be determined at a later time, she said.

Each unit features a built-in microwave, washer, dryer and free wireless internet service.

The clubhouse has a large gathering area with two gas-burning stone fireplaces, a pool, hot tub, exercise room and movie theater room.

Sam Gottlieb, owner of Regency Park Apartments, lives in Savannah, Ga., and also owns the Meadow Park Apartments in Kennewick and complexes in Eugene, Ore., and Seattle.
