A Hermiston man indicted on eight charges, including kidnapping, assault and menacing, appeared Monday before a Umatilla County Circuit Court judge.
Alberto Quiroz Martinez, 28, was arrested May 1 for allegedly taking his ex-girlfriend hostage and holding her at a cabin in Crescent Lake, Ore., officials said.
Melody Kaye Mickel and Umatilla County Sheriff's Office Detective Kasey Ward testified before a grand jury last week, which handed down the charges.
Martinez allegedly kidnapped Mikel of Hermiston on April 26 and took her to the Southern Oregon cabin.
He reportedly used her as a human shield and held a knife to her throat when he tried to leave the cabin after law enforcement officers arrived.
An Oregon State Police SWAT team member grazed him in the head with a bullet as he walked out of the cabin. Mickel was not injured.
