The public is invited to a ribbon cutting and grand opening for the new Southridge Sports and Events Complex at 5 p.m. today at 2901 Southridge Blvd.
The 30,000-square-foot indoor pavilion, which cost $3.2 million, is the first facility of its kind in the Tri-Cities. It's a central feature for the city's sports complex that includes multi-use fields and ballfields, a playground and plenty of grassy areas for family activities.
The ribbon cutting and unveiling of a plaque is at 5 p.m. in front of the pavilion in the parking lot.
There will be sports demonstrations and mock special events in the pavilion, and a craft class in the upstairs meeting room.
The facility will be open until 8 p.m., with refreshments from Yoplicity Frozen Yogurt and Famous Dave's BBQ.
The outdoor fields will have soccer and softball demonstrations.
People attending the grand opening will have a chance to win a free Xbox Kinect Bundle courtesy of Advanced Pediatric Dentistry and an iPad donated by the Manor at Canyon Lakes.
