Students at Maya Angelou Elementary School in Pasco collected $4,131 last week for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Classmate Nathan Finke, 11, is diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. The school's 912 students held a change drive to collect money as part of a fundraiser organized by the school and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
The fifth-grade class of teacher Kelly Nevills collected $452, the most of any class at the school. They won a pizza party field trip. Nathan's class collected the second-highest amount of cash.
Amy Finke, Nathan’s mother, said Nathan has been doing well health-wise but the illness typically worsens over time. She said she was thankful for the students' and community’s efforts to help her son and family.
