Tim Ford, open government ombudsman for the state Attorney General's Office will be in Richland tonight to shine a light on the state's Open Public Meetings Act and Public Records Act.
The Open Government Forum is from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Gallery Room at the Richland Public Library, 955 Northgate Drive.
The program is free and open to the public. Canned food donations will be collected for the Tri-Cities Food Bank.
Ford will be joined by Galt Pettett, Richland School District general counsel, and Rebecca Francik, Pasco mayor pro tem, to answer questions about the state's open records and public meeting laws.
The event is being held during Sunshine Week, a national initiative to promote a dialogue about the importance of open government and freedom of information.
The program is organized by the William O. Douglas chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, and sponsored by the Tri-City Herald and Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business.
