CONNELL -- Columbia Street in Connell was closed for several hours Tuesday after a water main broke and flooded the street.
Maintenance work was being done at the well near the old Connell Elementary School on East Clark Street when two water line breaks happened around noon, said Steve Taylor, Connell city administrator.
A water line break occurred near the well and the intersection of Franklin Street and South Dayton Avenue after a valve blew, he said.
The city shut water to both areas by 3 p.m. and began repairing the lines, Taylor said. The break caused some flooding near city hall, but Taylor said there were no reports of major property damage.
Taylor expected service to be restored to all but two customers by late Tuesday.
