Search for missing dog, man continues by boat

The search for a missing Moses Lake man continued Wednesday in the Potholes Reservoir.

Dan Toya, 64, went missing Friday while taking his dog for a walk near Samson's Beach, said Grant County Sheriff Tom Jones.

A side-scanning sonar boat from Boise was expected to begin searching a portion of the Potholes Reservoir, near where Toya's unoccupied truck was found.

"Searchers continued their efforts throughout the weekend," Jones said. "Their efforts have been extraordinary, and with the deployment of a sonar boat, we will have exhausted all resources in the search for Dan."

Toya was reported missing by his wife on Friday after he failed to return home with his 10-month-old golden Labrador retriever, Molly. He reportedly told his wife that he was going to take Molly for a walk after leaving a Moses Lake veterinarian's office.

When he didn't return home, his wife called family members, who found his truck in the Samson Beach area. They then called 911, and searchers worked through the night and morning looking for Toya.

The ground search was suspended around 2 p.m. Saturday.

Toya, who was reportedly in good health and good spirits, is 5-foot-9, 180 pounds and was wearing a dark jacket, blue jeans and tennis shoes. Molly also has not been found.

Anyone with information about Toya can call the Grant County Sheriff's Office at 509-762-1160 or send information to crimetips@co.grant.wa.us. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
